HFYC Khandala Camp 2016

Khandala Youth Camp 2016 – Holy Family Church, Chembur

After a month of rigorous and meticulous planning, the youth of Holy Family Parish, Pestom Sagar, Chembur, set out on a journey to Kune Mission, Khandala, 10th-12th June 2016. It was indeed a respite from the sweltering Bombay heat. The objective of this camp attended by 40 youth, along with the spiritual director, Fr Terence Murray, the facilitator Mrs Francesca Aranha, and the 5 ever-supportive PYAT members, was two-fold:
formation and fellowship. The scenic beauty and the refreshing cool breeze welcomed us at Khandala. The 3 amazing days were replete with thought-provoking sessions, creative games, quiz competitions, debate rounds, prayers, interspersed with times of rest and leisure. The youth would let their hair down and enjoy lovely dance sessions at evenings. Time management, focus on character, personal growth, making choices, and considering right priorities were some of the topics touched upon by Fr Terenece Murray and Mrs Aranha. A surprise pageant contest brought out many hidden talents of the starry-eyed participants. Most youth had mustered courage to share their reveries to a strange crowd for the first time. Creativity and newness was in the air. A short trek was organized on the last day, where we visited an ancient grotto. As we thank the clergy Fr Ashlyn Fonseca and Fr Terence Murray, the youth animators, and sponsors responsible for the success of this camp, we acknowledge this as an enriching experience.

Poem by ma'am Francesca

Thank you all on this camp,
For not letting our spirits damp.
Though you had rules, do's & don'ts,
You managed to enjoy the most.
A few cribbed here & there,
One can't have everything everywhere.
From day one to day three,
You were as merry as can be.
In sessions, you were attentive to the core,
though a few of you were somewhat bored.
In the Jam session, we were really thrilled to see you freak out,
Dance, scream, screech & shout.
Though sleepy, the morning trek you didn't skip,
Your eyes drooped yet you were tight lipped.
We gave you freedom coz you knew where to draw the line,
You maintained your dignity & respect,
so both Fr & I were fine.
We want our Holy Family Youth to stand out in the crowd,
Now seeing your attitude at the camp,
really makes Fr Terence & me very proud.
DO YOUR BEST & GOD WILL TAKE CARE OF THE REST.

Thank you & God bless.
